Our freelancer Shannon Sweet with the Paul Stanley.
What do you ask the lead singer of one of the biggest rock 'n' roll bands in all of the frickin' world at his restaurant/bar opening? Makeup tips, of course!
Paul Stanley is in town tonight for the opening of Rock & Brews, the newest addition to the recently renovated AT&T Center, and to sing the national anthem as the Spurs take on the delectably laughable Lakers. Stanley is a co-owner in the rock 'n' roll themed restaurant/bar that has numerous craft beers and high-end pub grub, including a Southwest sirloin sandwich, pulled pork sandwich and gourmet burger.
My first question to Stanley was simple, "As the prettiest member of KISS, were you ever bummed about having to paint your makeup on every night, covering up that beautiful mug?"
He wasted no time, "I've always loved what I do and the makeup has always been a part of that, so, for me it's very much like a second skin. It's nice to be walking around without it, but there's a time and place for everything."
I implored, "Why never paint your iconic star over your right eye? Y'know, spice it up?"
"Good question. I probably couldn't even draw it on the other eye, but that's a good question. I don't know why it's on my right eye, but it is."
I wanted to know why Stanley chose San Antonio to open his second location, barring we're the rock 'n' roll capital of the world. "Well, this is the first arena we've done Rock & Brews in and with the AT&T Center being redone it was a perfect fit. Being in a town that I've got so many great memories of, and also the fact that it's military central, is awesome. I'm a big, big believer in supporting the military, our first responders, all the people who make us think that freedom is free."
I had to ask one for the Sociology majors, "Do you ever miss the anonymity of your first bands, just playing for the love of the rock?"
"No. I don't miss anything. Every day I wake up I'm very happy."
Lastly, as Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park is one of the greatest B movies of all time, I needed to know if Paul had anymore plans to grace the silver screen with his billion-dollar visage. "I think we said everything we could with that one. They'll probably be something KISS related, but we wouldn't be in it."
