The bespectacled, cardigan-clad quartet of science and humanities heartthrobs led by indie enigma Rivers Cuomo have announced that they will release their self-titled 10th album on April 1. And they promise this isn't a joke.
The group has recently released two singles and corresponding videos for the record, entitled "Thank God for Girls" and "King of the World," and will be heading out on tour this Summer with Panic! at the Disco and Andrew McMahon & the Wilderness. The tour skips San Antonio and Austin, but will stop in Corpus, The Woodlands (or, Rich Houston) and Dallas. The Corpus date will be only the second show of the tour and takes place on June 11, so plan your beach vay-cay accordingly.
Cuomo had this to say about the April fools release:
"This album was inspired by my experiences hanging around the Westside of Los Angeles, which has been our home since Weezer began. Hanging out with people in Venice and Santa Monica, the beach, the Hare Krishnas, the Sikh on roller blades with the guitar, girls on Tinder within a 4 mile radius, seeing other bands, etc. I would just tweet out “does anybody wanna hang?” and then I’d get together with people who responded and talk about life. I love California. I wanted the album to have a Beach Boys sort of vibe to make you feel like you were there with us SoCal weirdos even if you’re in Milwaukee in December."
