In the mid-1980s, the alt-rock biz was male dominated, and then came L7. Formed by punk rockers who had something to say, L7 can be held responsible for aiding in the '90s riot grrrl movement with their abrasive sound and massive influence.
Sadly, after sharing the stage and much of the spotlight with grunge icons Hole and Nirvana, L7 isn't as recognized for their accomplishments as their stage mates. This has never stopped a punk band from kicking ass, however. Hopefully, although an extremely punk rock move, lead singer/all-around badass Donita Sparks won't throw her bloody tampon at the Aztec Theatre crowd while screaming “Eat my used tampon, fuckers.”
