Local Music Week 2016 Starts June 12

The seventh annual celebration of local bands and venues will take place from Sunday, June 12 to Saturday June 18 in concert settings across the city. In an effort to promote local bands as well as the growing number of bars and businesses that host them, the organizers have opened up submissions for the weeklong series of shows to the public. You can add your event to the calendar by emailing calendar.lmw@gmail.com.

The week will start off with a Hot Dog Social Kick-off to take place at Frank (1150 S. Alamo St.) on Sunday, June 12 starting at 3 and going to 9 p.m. The free, all-ages event will feature live music by 16 Psyche, Volcan, Verisimilitude, The Foreign Arm and El Westside Soundsystem, who will play between sets. RSVP here for a free wiener from the restaurant which also hosts live music and has taken over the former home of Casbeers at The Church.

Wednesday, June 15 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Co Lab, a new co-working space at 723 N. Alamo St., will host the free San Antonio Music & Media Mixer, offering residents the opportunity to network and socialize with numerous representatives involved in the San Antonio music scene including the media, music-oriented businesses and organizations. Music will be provided by DJs Donnie Dee, Jester the Filipino Fist and Chacho. You can RSVP here for complimentary drinks.

The week will feature numerous opportunities to get out and experience some of the best and worst in San Antonio's music scene, so take this opportunity to brush up on your local band knowledge; who sucks, who rules, who should be blowing up and who just blows.
