The latest in a string of exciting 2017 show developments for K23, San Antonio's best DIY venue, is Mr. Elevator. The California psych-pop outfit, formerly know as Mr. Elevator and the Brain Hotel, will bless the little venue that could on May 7, with support from Austin's The Rotten Mangos and SA's Sunjammer.

Mr. Elevator, which is anything but another garage-psych outfit aping The Monks or Thee Oh Sees, proffers a swirling and whirling psych-pop groove that's a little bit of Phil Spector’s wall of sound, a dash of The Doors' wild carnival organ, a touch of the Beatles’ stranger side, and pure, stoned Californian ecstasy aplenty. The band's sound is unique, even among would be peers, because it loosely incorporates elements of jazz (especially in the live setting) and eschews the ubiquitous electric guitar component of typical psych-rock with blistering and whirling synth/organ leads.

With its latest release—sophomore LP When the Morning Greets You, released on March 3 by Rad Cat Records—Mr. Elevator expands upon the vibe it nailed so perfectly on its 2013 debut Nico and Her Psychedelic Subconscious, showcasing greater knack for subtlety and further exploring the pop aspects of its psych-pop foundation.
To make matters more trippy, this show will also feature a slue of fantastical visions in the form of a psychedelic light show by Ether Wave, a master of projections who done work for the likes of Levitation and Desert Daze.

As if this wasn't a can't-miss show already, K23's Gem Hotvet indicated to the Current that it will also be the venue's last show (at least "on campus") for "some time," as she and husband/K23 co-owner Glenn Hotvet will focus on broadening their horizons (see Astral Projections and Psych del Rio, so far).
