Haunt's guitar work evokes the sounds of early '80s British metal.
may hail from Fresno, Calif., but the band's sound is rooted deep in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that screamed from across the pond in the early '80s.
So much so that its lead guitar harmonies and chugging rhythms wouldn't sound out of place on a triple bill between Angel Witch and the Tygers of Pan Tang. (If that's too obscure for you, kids, think early Iron Maiden.) But, since it's not 1981, we'll have to settle for them headlining Thursday at the Mix.
Haunt guitarist/vocalist Trevor William Church — yep, the guy from doom heavyweights Beastmaker — happens to be the son of Bill Church, bassist for '70s proto-metalers
Montrose, which might explain his affinity for retro-riffage.
San Francisco's Hell Fir
e, recently signed to RidingEasy Records
, and Austin's Duel
round out Thursday's bill with a similarly old-school approach to Marshall worship. Strap on those bullet belts.
$3, Thursday, April 19, 9pm, The Mix, 2423 N St Mary's St., (817) 401-7771, themixsa.com.
