Austin's Black Pumas Brings Mix of Psychedelic Soul, Rock 'N' Roll to Sam's Burger Joint

  • Merrick Ales
Austin outfit Black Pumas, stopping at Sam’s this week, makes fuzzy, psychedelic soul music with old-school rock ’n’ roll energy. The new project, comprised of songwriter/producer Adrian Quesada and singer Eric Burton, formed last year when Quesada, taking a break from his work as guitarist with ATX Latin-funk crew Brownout, began writing a set of soul songs. Quesada linked up with Burton and, after some attention-winning sets at SXSW 2018, the duo is set to release its debut album this summer. This exciting project, based on some good live captures of the aforementioned SXSW performances, puts on a high-energy, heavy-mood love show. Check Black Pumas out at

$10-$45, Fri Jun 1, 9pm, Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson St., (210) 223-2830,
