Ledisi, a gifted R&B and jazz singer-songwriter who hails from the Big Easy, is hardly a household name, despite the fact that she possesses a beautifully powerful and soulful voice and has been nominated for twelve Grammy Awards in the R&B performance, album and artist categories. Over eight albums since 2000, Ledisi has staked her claim to fame among R&B devotees as a true original.

Tweet’s 2016 album Charlene was probably the most underrated records of the year. Now, we all remember Tweet’s Timbaland-produced debut single back in the early aughts “Oops (Oh My)” about her, you know, touching herself. While all that is perfectly healthy human behavior, Charlene let us see how much Tweet has grown into a woman with her grown-folk R&B. While the record still retained Tweet’s sensuality, Charlene is definitely not a pop record. Sound enticing? Then head to ledisi.com and check out her sound, especially on 2017’s stellar Let Love Rule, and then get yourself to the Aztec on Sunday to hear how masterful her songs and voice sound in person.

Canadian soul/jazz/reggae artist Melanie Fiona will join Ledisi on this bill.

$45-$65, Sun Jun 17, 7pm, Aztec Theatre, 104 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 812-4355, theaztectheatre.com.
