Hailing from Lubbock Texas, the Josh Abbott Band are no strangers to playing San Antonio.

What’s strange about San Antonio is that, while it might not be the same people at both shows, there seems to be an equal amount of affinity for Bone Thugs-N-Harmony as there is for the Josh Abbott Band.

While that may seem like a stretch, lyrically, I don’t think the themes from each group are that different. In fact, its arguable that country and gangsta rap (are we still calling it that?) have more in common than pop and country.

Y’all can feel free to fight me on this one, but I think what adds to San Antonio being so diverse is our love for music from artists that talk about some real shit in their songs. Singers, rappers and screamers that get real from behind a microphone and say what they really want to say like:

“And that kiss killed me, healed me, chilled me / Through this ol' boy to the core / Yeah, you lit the flame, I'm playing / And I wanna keep coming on back for more”

That’s some real shit right there, and we’re here for it.

$20-$30, Saturday, February 9, Cowboys Dancehall, 3030 NE Loop 410, cowboysdancehall.com.
