‘Aesthetic Encounters’

While some of us lived vicariously through last week’s reports from the party-packed Miami Beach edition of the storied Swiss art fair Art Basel—which this year attracted the likes of Miley Cyrus (courtesy of art dealer/curator Jeffrey Deitch) and Kim Kardashian (reportedly to, um, “celebrate her famous Paper magazine cover”)—local gallerist Patricia Ruiz-Healy represented San Antonio live from the Sunshine State. As one of only three Texas-based members of the nonprofit International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA), Ruiz-Healy Art nabbed an admittedly “prime location” at INK Miami Art Fair—a print-based satellite fair that transformed the Suites of Dorchester into temporary galleries. In keeping with its “emphasis on Latin American and Texas-connected artists,” the Olmos Park gallery showcased San Antonio mainstays (Jesse Amado, Ricky Armendariz, Nate Cassie, Leigh Anne Lester, Ethel Shipton, Vincent Valdez and the late Chuck Ramirez among them) alongside the likes of Nicolás Leiva (Argentina), Graciela Iturbide (Mexico) and Andrés Ferrandis (Spain). As luck would have it, “Aesthetic Encounters” brings the bulk of the bunch back home for a holiday exhibition on view through January 10. Free, 6-10pm, Ruiz-Healy Art, 201 E Olmos, (210) 804-2219, ruizhealyart.com. —Bryan Rindfuss
