OK, so maybe we don’t have every single one
of Barney Smith’s 1,335 imaginatively decorated toilet seats represented in this slideshow — but we photographed most
of them on a recent visit to his epic Toilet Seat Art Museum
— a San Antonio landmark and famed roadside attraction that recently went up for sale.
While there’s no concrete offer on the collection at the moment, attendance has spiked and Smith typically welcomes visitors from 1 to 3 p.m. daily — but please call first: (210) 824-7791. Drop by for a chat with the 96-year-old raconteur, behold his seemingly endless assortment of toilet seats (dedicated to everything from Mount St. Helens and Gregg Popovich to the Berlin Wall and PEZ dispensers) and keep an eye out for a forthcoming book celebrating his life and work: King of the Commode
, dropping May 26 from Austin-based publisher Cattywampus Press
