"I’m a happy-go-lucky dachshund mix, outgoing and affectionate, with a wag of the tail and a nice kiss for everyone I meet. I’m very active and love to play with dogs and kids. If you think you can be that special person for me, then please consider giving me a chance!

"Hello everyone, I’m Ranger. I keep hearing from humans around me that I am not a common dog. I suppose it’s my eyes? Maybe it’s my fur or large stature? Either way, it makes me feel rather happy to feel unique and special! I currently have a breathing issue so the great people at ADL take me out for walks on this contraption they call a harness. I am an older guy but I still crave lots of love and attention. Will you be the one to give me lots of love and my forever home!"

"I’m a very active boy and you won’t see me stay still for long. I like playing, and I enjoy dogs and kids over 12. I do have a problem with a disc in my back and that means I shouldn’t play rough or jump from high surfaces. But so far I haven’t had any trouble, and I plan to keep it that way. "No, I am not a bear, I’m just Lloyd the handsome chow chow mix. I was brought to ADL due to Hurricane Harvey and now I’m ready to find a forever home! My handsome bear-ish looks get me a lot of attention. Most people have the urge to give me a big ol’ hug because I look like a big cuddly bear, but please, take it easy with me! I am deaf and don’t have the best eye sight, so it’s very easy to startle me. I also prefer to not have my neck touched. It’s just not my thing! Since children like to hug, I prefer a home with no children. Overall, I am a friendly old man. I also enjoy slow strolls in the park and I like treats. I’m looking for a calm home where I can relax and be loved. I would probably be okay with a little dog sibling too, one who is as calm as me. Do you think you can be that special person for me? Then come by and visit me!"

"Hi, I’m Salsa! Don’t worry, I’m not spicy like salsa. In fact, I’m a calm and cordial type of lady. Isn’t my hair elegant? I keep up with grooming it often to make sure it stays looking luxurious. However, I wouldn’t mind someone brushing it every now and then for me. You know what I like? I like to sit on laps and relax. You know what I would love? "I may not be a famous chemist who devised the periodic table but I’m pretty special. I’m a Hurricane Harvey dog. That means that the Animal Defense League traveled to the shelter I was in looking for a home before the storm and brought me back to find a home in San Antonio. I’ve got to say I feel like an SA dog and now I just need my forever home to come find me!"

“Hi, I’m Frappe! I’m pretty shy and timid. I want to be adopted but I’m very observant. Someday maybe someday a family could take me some and care for me.”

They call me “spunky,” which means I can’t sit still for a second. I want to be playing or kissing or rolling in the grass or chasing bugs or finding mischief. That’s what life’s all about! If I came to live with you, I’d bring my sense of joy with me and we would have a grand time together."

But when staff takes me out to meet you, you’ll hardly recognize the shy, reluctant dog at the end of the leash. I don’t remember what happened before I came here, but I’m just so scared that it takes a long time for me to trust people. I don’t have an ounce of meanness in me – I just need someone with patience to wait for me to be ready to share my love. When that time comes, I enjoy cuddling and I’m as sweet as can be.
