"Hello! When I came to ADL they found out I had an ear infection, heartworms, and a chemical burn on my body. The ADL veterinarian team treated me immediately and I’m now doing so much better! I am clear of my ear infection, I’m currently going through heartworm treatment and my burns are quickly healing. Overall, I am a chill dog, especially when I’m in a car. I will sit patiently in the backseat and enjoy the ride. I like yummy treats and like most bulldogs will drool like mad for them. I even know how to sit for treats and I know I can learn more tricks. Nobody knows what I went through before I got here but I’m ready to leave the past behind me. I’m now looking forward to a bright future in a loving home of my own with someone who will love me forever."
Madrid
"Hi, I’m Madrid! I am a nice and friendly kitty who’s still young and full of energy. I was one of the pets that ADL picked up from SPCA of Brazoria County in Lake Jackson, TX. I was already in the shelter looking for someone to adopt me and then hurricane Harvey came around. After that horrible Harvey left, I was transferred to ADL so that room could be made for pets at SPCA who were displaced by Harvey. Now I am looking for a home here at ADL, I hope I can find my person soon!"
Buster
“Don’t panic, that’s not a green spider crawling over my eye. It’s stitches – I just had an eye removed. It wasn’t doing me any good anyway, since I couldn’t see out of it, so I don’t mind. I’m a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, always ready to play. I love toys and treats and would love an active family that likes to keep busy. I’m smart too – I can sit, shake and fetch on command, especially if I know there’s a treat waiting for me. If you love to play as much as I do, please come see me – I’ll be right here waiting and wagging!”
Byron
“Bryon is a great name for a gentlemanly cat like me! I’m FIV positive and I do have other health issues that you should ask the staff about when you come see me. You are coming to see me right? How could you resist having a true gentleman in your home? I’m also loving and very sweet. I know you’re sold now so I’ll see you soon!”
Dominic
“Hello there! Let us sit down and have a fun little chat to get to know each other. At first, I might be a bit reserved but if you stay with me for a minute and comfort me slowly I’ll be begging for ear rubs in no time! Yup, I love ear rubs! I am very curious and adventurous since i’m still young. Let’s get to know each other even more!”
Myra
“Hi, my name is Myra. I am a 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. I’m brown and white. I like to be goofy and play with you. I’m strong so I will need some training on the leash. I am friendly and would like to go home with you!”
Adam
“I am one of your larger chihuahuas but I still like to be held. I also like being on the ground so either way is okay with me. Like all dogs, I just like attention. I get excited at the opportunity to be out and about but overall, I have an even tempered personality that won’t overwhelm you.”
Marcello
“I am a perfect mix. Not just my breed but also my personality. I’m active and playful while also being a real snuggle bug who loves to love. I am FIV positive but this doesn’t mean I won’t live a long, happy life. I suggest you read about it and consider giving us FIV cats a chance! I would love to show someone how fabulous I am. Could you be that person?”
Scruffy
“Hi, I am Scruffy, I am a very super sweet girl who enjoys curling up on your lap and giving sweet kisses. I will provide you with all of my love and affection! Come down to meet me so we can get to know each other better! I’ll be waiting at the Paul Jolly Center.”
Cinnamon
“Hi, I’m Cinnamon. I can be a little skittish so please go slow with me. I’m sure in a home I will warm up to my human. I just need some time. Please visit me in the cattery and give me a chance to be your feline friend!”

Poseidon
“Being with me is like being in that movie. You know the one I mean – “The Poseidon Adventure.” I’m a big boy and I could use some training in the basics because I’m very active and playful, and I’m always looking around for the next fun thing to do. See my picture? There I am watching for adventure now! All you have to do is give me a kind word, and I’ll reward you with a big, goofy grin and a contagious, happy energy that you’ll fall in love with. Mostly, I can’t wait to find a permanent home where I can pour out that love and excitement on people all the time; I never run out of it!”
Ducky
“Hello, I am Ducky! I’m not the most social cat in the cattery, in fact, I’m very shy. I prefer to hang out in high places and people-watch from above. People often pass me up all the time but I can’t help being shy. I know there’s a special person out there for me who will love me just as I am and I’m patiently waiting for that person to come into my life. Do you think it can be you?”
Syrup
“Why would anyone name a dog Syrup? Well, I’m as sweet as syrup, that’s for sure. I’ll cover you with kisses like syrup covers pancakes. I run as much, or maybe more, than syrup. So yup, I guess that’s a pretty good name for me. I’m a bit goofy and silly, full of energy and completely adorable with my little ears and big eyes, which may have nothing to do with syrup but everything to do with me. Make me yours and I’ll love you forever.”
Cashmere
“Hello, I am the lovely Miss Cashmere. I prefer to be treated like a Queen. As your Queen, I expect only treats of a certain delicious type. My temporary cattery caretakers will make sure that you are aware of which type. As your Queen, I will let you pet my elegant fur coat. However, I will refuse to smile when you do. I have this natural sass that permeates from my big blue scowling eyes and it will not change for anyone. Please be aware, that your royal highness is just as ready to be loved as the next smiling hyper kitty in the cattery. I am just an exquisite lady. Please visit me and allow me to take control of your castle. You can adopt me now for $175.”
Biggs
“When you first visit me in my kennel I’m going to go wild. I’m sorry but I just can’t help it. When I first came to the Animal Defense League, I had demodex mange and after being cooped up for treatment for so long I’m wild for fun. I’m very energetic, playful and I love to jump. Once I calm down all I want to do is lean on my human’s legs. Are yours the legs I’m destined to lean on for the rest of my life? If so, come adopt me today!”
Ikey
“I know I look a little silly with this cone on my head. Let’s just call it my lion’s mane (kinda looks like that, right) because it’s not coming off anytime soon. I have this little quirk where I over- groom my fur leaving bald patches. There are multiple reasons why I could be doing this so it’s just a matter of time before staff figures me out. Just like it’s only a matter of time before my forever home finds me. Hopefully they will be a quirky as I am!”
Scott
“People call me Scott, but I could just as easily be named Happy, because that’s what I am all the time. Just look at me and you’ll start smiling because I radiate happiness. I love to run and play or snuggle and kiss. Either one is fine with me. I just want to spread my joy to the rest of the world, starting with you.”
Bo Peep
“I am Bo Peep! I like to cuddle with other kitty cats, especially Tails, who is also looking for a home. I’m a nice cat but if you come up to me with a camera, I get camera shy. I hope that you can pay me a visit and get to know me better because I really would like to find a home soon!”
Jennifer
“Hi, I’m Jennifer. I’m an easy-going lady but a little wary of strange places and new people. I was a mommy when I came to ADL and no one knows what I went through before I came here. I wasn’t in the greatest condition either, I had lots of fleas and demodex mange which ADL is helping me heal from. I also have hip dysplasia with osteoarthritis, so I just need to take it easy, which isn’t difficult for a calm gal like me. I can be shy, but just give me a moment and I’ll soon be leaning on you and waiting for you to comfort me. I like kisses on the head and chin rubs. I’m sure once I feel comfortable in a home, I will be the sweetest and most loyal dog to my person. I am ready for that person to come into my life and give me that chance to shine and be loved forever. Do you think you can be that person for me?”
Frappe
“Hi, I’m Frappe! I’m pretty shy and timid. I want to be adopted but I’m very observant. Someday maybe someday a family could take me some and care for me.”

Dodger
“You want to play? I do! I love playing! I’m a growing puppy and playing is what I do best! The folks here describe me as “spunky,” whatever that means. Sometimes they call me “goofy.” All I know is that I love toys and running around and having fun. One thing I don’t love is when I think someone is trying to take away my food or a toy. I’m still learning about what being a good boy means, and I could use some training so I know “resource guarding” is not being a good boy. I want to be a very good boy so I will be loved, because I have a lot of love to give.”
Stuart
“Hi, the staff and I are getting to know each other. I’ll tell you what, if you think you might be interested in me, please visit me and get to know me!”
Christina
“Huh, what did you say? I’m sorry I’m not ignoring you I just have a short attention span. Oh, sorry what were we talking about? I was telling you about myself you say. Well…I’m hyper, jumpy and happy…sorry were we doing something? Yes, I know it can be frustrating but I promise if you take me home you’ll never be bored!”
Theodore
“I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day! I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day! Oh, well hello there! I’m just singing my favorite song. I’m an energy packed dog and my idea of a party involves dancing, jumping, wiggling around and showing off my Gene Simmons tongue! Before I came to ADL, I was partying with a pack of fleas, well those fleas were pretty wild and caused me some hair-loss. Thank goodness ADL helped me out and kicked those pesky fleas off my back! My hair is growing back and I’m doing so much better! I’m ready to find a friend who will love having silly me around. So if you’re looking for a fun pooch that’ll keep you on your toes and be goofy with you, then I’m your man! Visit me soon and let’s start rock and rollin’ together.”
Michelle
“Michelle, my belle, these are words that go together well. Can I be your Michelle Belle? I promise I will be a sweet kitty to you! I am very young and ready to begin my life in a forever home where I can be lazy and loved by my human. I enjoy cat naps and I like to be pet. I’m pretty chill for a young kitty and will make a wonderful furry companion. Will you give me the chance to be your best friend?”
