SPONSORED -- Every first Sunday in May, Centro Cultural Aztlan presents the annual Lowrider Festival an event that welds art with culture. This one-day, authentic-art, family-oriented event–attracts hundreds of local and regional competitors who have turned their once factory-standard vehicles into mobile works of art. Cars and trucks are elaborately customized with gleaming chrome and upholstery. Professionally painted murals are works of art and show the personal reflections and expressions of each participant. Every car and truck are viewed by thousands of aficionados. First presented in 1982, the annual Lowrider Festival is the only event of its kind to be sponsored by a cultural-arts organization. Centro Cultural Aztlan is dedicated to preserving and promoting this non-traditional form of “barrio art” expression.
