Close out 2014 with a bang, a great dinner or a bitchin’ shindig. Here are a few quick suggestions for welcoming 2015 with open arms.
Stella Public House (1414 S Alamo, (210) 277-7047) will host two seatings, slated for 7 and 9 p.m., for their three-course farm-to-table dinner. The $45 per person menu includes a pork roll on a bed a roasted potatoes with Cognac sauce, dried figs, pancetta, capers and gorgonzola dolce; burrata and black truffle pizza; and Italian donut bites served with sugar, cinnamon, dark espresso chocolate and caramel. Beer and wine pairings will be available. The diet starts January 1, after all.
Welcome the new year with Italian favorites at Aldo’s Ristorante Italiano (8539 Fredericksburg, (210) 696-2536) which will offer a New Year’s Eve menu and live piano sounds. Menu includes several appetizers, entrées (pollo gorgonzola, shrimp scampi, rigatoni and more) and dessert, available from 5 p.m. to midnight.
Make it a bowling night at Bowlero (13307 San Pedro, (210) 496-3811), where a Ball Drop Package starts at $42.99 per guest or $229.99 per lane (up to six guests). The package includes shoe rental, unlimited soft drinks, party favors, a midnight bubbly toast and unlimited bowling from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Reservations can be made at (210) 496-3811.
Take the party to the Southwest with a night at Tacos and Tequila (1915 Broadway, (210) 314-8226) from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. where you can nosh on food stations, sip from the open bar (where you’ll find 16 tequilas on tap), chill with liquid nitrogen cocktails and nibble on sweet desserts. The evening runs $129 per person.
Or ditch dinner for a cover-free dance party at Southtown 101 (101 Presa), where The S.O.U.L. Family will feature the sounds of Esteban Torres (Houston’s Praia Urbana), Big Rich (Austin’s Quadbeats) and Abe Novy. The night caps with free Champagne at midnight.
There’s also room for some art viewing. Check out the latest works by Maisie Marie Alford, Jeff Wheeler and Daniel Johnston inside FL!GHT Gallery (134 Blue Star). The evening also includes music by Rasta Mike, bites via gallery owner Justin Parr and chef Robbie Nowlin, and a Champagne toast at midnight. All the cool kids are doing it.
Tuk Tuk Taproom (1702 Broadway, (210) 222-8277) will open its doors on New Year’s Day with two seatings of its dim sum pajama brunch (though leftover tuxedos will also be welcome) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Share handmade dumplings and Chinese hot tea for $22.95 per person.
