It's sad how many once-gorgeous old homes end up turned into messes by ill-advised additions or renovations that strip away too much of their original charm.

Not this one.

Whoever did the renovation on this 1915 three-bedroom house bordering Fort Sam Houston paid meticulous attention to preserving its original character, from the breathtaking molding and woodwork to the bathrooms' black-and-white tile and clawfoot tubs.

Of course, there are some modern touches to the $475,000 property, including its revamped kitchen with stainless steel appliances. But those are offset by stately retro touches like glass-front cabinets and furnished hardwood floors.
