A Tuna Christmas

Committing to the holidays means overeating, overspending, and overstressing.   And — outside of a cup of 80-proof cheer — what gets us through the rough rush of Santa sidewalks is standard Christmas programing: A Charlie Brown Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Grinch, and that Island of Lost Toys. It’s like end-of-the-year amnesia demands we re-watch these shows to remember why we suffer so. But Christmas is not about sitting in front of a TV with your mall hangover. Joe Sears and Jaston Williams are two guys that play, like, 24 characters between them, and have been perfecting this Yuletide yuckfest for years. Based on their Broadway hit Greater Tuna, A Greater Tuna Christmas takes Tuna fans back to a world “where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies.” This year’s pageant involves a gun store and life-sized replicas of Natalie Wood. Despite my adoration of Beverly D’angelo, I’ll take those elements over a rerun of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation any time. $35, 8pm Tue, Dec 21, Majestic Theatre, 226 E Houston, (210) 226-3333, majesticempire.com — Roberto Ontiveros
