“After the Blues” — Dead Season

comment

The pervasive down-tempo clarinet loop gives the track a false chilled-out vibe, for all of about 10 seconds. Dead Season MCs Progeny and Max Seilhamer disregard a steady beat in favor of a frantic delivery, spitting every line as if it’s a key direction to a plummeting airplane pilot. “Don’t fear the seer even if his message ain’t exactly clear,” the song instructs, and all that tongue-straining babble about “subvert`ing` the infirmary” and “stratums of delirium” is way less than lucid, even after repeated listens. But, after two-plus minutes of breathless panic-attack rap, the desperation in the resolution — “It’s time for my execution” — isn’t open for interpretation.
