Alamo Tricentennial Lecture Series-"Forgotten Fire-eaters: Texans Leave the Union in 1861"

Convinced they had to defend the “southern way of life”, Texans in the fall of 1860 voted overwhelmingly against Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln. When Lincoln won the presidential race, Texas declared itself out of the Union before he was inaugurated. The lecture series will discuss the political leaders and military force behind Texas's secession of the union.
