School groups, families and social clubs contributed colorful, heartfelt Día de los Muertos altars to the seventh annual Muertos Fest, a kid-friendly event at Hemisfair benefiting the nonprofit Inner City Development. Beyond honoring dearly departed relatives, pets and celebrities (Selena, Frida Kahlo and Emilio Navaira, to name a few), several of this year’s altars were more symbolic in nature, paying tribute to extinct flora and fauna, victims of mass shootings and children who passed away in border detention centers.
