- Alton Brown Live! comes to the Tobin in April
Are you a young professional in the area with a penchant for craft beer? If so, the SA chapter of Texas Young Professionals is hosting a pre-opening mixer at the new Alamo Brewery (202 Lamar) on Wednesday, November 12 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Stop in, network, hob nob, take in some wine and tasty bites and check out the space. Proceeds from the mixer will benefit the San Antonio Food Bank. Register for the event here.
In mid-October, Gaucho Gourmet (935 Isom) changed gears at their bodega with a more cheese-focused lineup, a new takeout lunch menu available Monday through Saturday and a seasonal market with Groomer's Seafood as partner. The relaunch was a way for the shop to setup their goals for the Ciorciari family's next venture, The Texas Cheese Cellar, at 401 Pearl Parkway. The shop, which was announced this past Friday, will feature cut-to-order cheeses from around the globe, the U.S. and Texas, along with wines by the glass and charcuterie boards. Guests can expect to get their night cheese on by late January. In the meantime, Gaucho will continue hosting fun chefs at their main location. Robbie Nowlin of Citrus at Valencia Hotel will lead a foie gras cooking class during the shop's annual Duck & Foie Gras Feast on November 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit gauchogourmet.com for tickets.
Farm dinners are all the rage lately. The folks at South Texas Heritage Pork (2890 Lucas, Floresville) are hosting Matthew McCallister and Bradford Hodgkins of Dallas' FT33 for a "Fall Harvest Dinner" on Monday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m. The guys will be joined by Randy Rucker (Bramble in Houston); Andrew Wiseheart (Contigo in Austin); and local all-stars Luca Della Casa (Nosh, Silo) and Gabriel Ibarra (Cappy's) for a night of wild edibles and tasty heritage pork. Tickets, $125, are available through sthpfallharvest.bpt.me.
Finally in thank-goodness-for-the-Tobin news, Alton Brown of Food Network's Good Eats fame will finally grace San Antonio with his presence. Brown's The Edible Inevitable Tour will land at the Tobin on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. inside the H-E-B Performance Hall. Online tickets go on sale Friday, November 14 (or you can use the promo code FOODIE on the phone or in person). The two-hour show features Brown's take on stand-up, food science and live music.
