Spring Break 101: It’s never too early to plan. Especially in South Texas, where tank tops and flip flops are the norm at Thanksgiving dinner and snow flurries leap generations. But we’ve grown tired of the traditional bikini-clad South Padre beaches steeped in college freshmen and cheep beer. Maybe it’s time to save up for a real vacation.

Beer connoisseurs rejoice — this year The Flying Saucer presents its first annual Spring Brews Cruise, May 3-8, aboard Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas. The five-night Western Caribbean expedition features seminars and tastings with All About Beer editor Julie Bradford, Dogfish founder Sam Calagione, and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing Co.

“We’re elevating the perception of beer and educating our customers about the great craft beers available,” says Flying Saucer owner Shannon Wayne. “It’s rare to have these beer experts together at one event ... and some of the featured beers will be limited editions.” Rates are $849-$1,299 per person depending on your ocean view, and include accommodations, all meals, entertainment, seminars, tastings, fees, and taxes. Space is limited, and reservations are available by contacting Mike Currie at Cruise Holidays at (817) 421-7447.
