The September 28 FUNraiser for San Anto ice-cream man Justin Arecchi was a success, reports his wife, Fiona. More than 300 friends showed up to wish him well – including old bandmates and travelers from as far as L.A. and Chicago – and raise funds to cover medical expenses and loss of income. Arecchi, whose latest venture is Justin’s On Main deli and scoop shop, was laid low this past spring by Adult Chicken Pox and an already battered immune system. Fiona gave up her teaching salary to take care of the family business, and make sure that Arecchi actually gets the rest he needs.

“His spirits are good, because he’s just seen all his friends,” says Fiona, but he’s still on a drug cocktail and tires easily. “You know he’s 63 years old; when he feels good, he needs to have a good time, and when he doesn’t, he needs to sleep.”

Fiona thinks the FUNraiser brought in at least $10,000, but short an income and with ongoing medical costs, Justin and his family could still use your help. Support the business at 2512 N. Main, (210) 736-1457 Main, and send donations to: P.O. Box 12195 San Antonio, 78212.
