Food at art galleries can be as predictable as it is lamentable — carrot sticks and raw broccoli with a side of ranch dressing. Healthy, yes, but not really a crowd pleaser. Artpace is taking a more populist approach, sure to increase its street cred and midday foot traffic. From noon to 2 p.m. each Friday in February, Artpace (445 N. Main Ave.) will open its courtyard doors for Taco Truck Fridays. The tacos de la calle are provided by “Tacomiendo,” which has developed an audience on the South Side, at its other residency at Division Avenue. and IH-35, and in Alamo Heights, where it was a big hit at a Christmas party at sloan/hall boutique. The Hudson (show)Room this month features the hyper-real portraiture of Kehinde Wiley, so you can feast your eyes on The World Stage after downing carnitas and Mexican cokes.
The food was well received at the inaugural event last week. The prices are naturally affordable and Tacomiendo offers a few items rare to taco trucks: shrimp cocktail and chalupas.
