April Restaurants Openings and Closings

A mild, but still active April when it comes to openings and closings around the city. Here's what's new to eat:

Carnitas Lonja, opened by Alex Paredes formerly of L√ľke San Antonio, held a soft opening the first weekend of Fiesta. The small shop with plenty of outdoor seating and plenty of pork carnitas to go around, is at 1107 Roosevelt Ave., (210) 612-3626.

Hollow Bar opened on the north side with oodles of TVs for you to catch the Spurs on. Find them at 14532 Brookhollow.

Sabor Cocina Bar took over the space previously occupied by Restaurant Mixtli. Now, the eatery features waffles, pancakes, chilaquiles and a la carte dishes, while lunch and dinner offer variations of enchiladas, salads and other house specialties. Find them at 5313 McCullough Ave., (210) 314-7760.

Fiesta Restaurant Group, parent company for Taco Cabana and Pollo Tropical, closed several Pollo Tropical stores in San Antonio including Evans & 281, 6515 W. Loop 1604, Loop 410 & West, Thousand Oaks, and 4315 NW Loop 410. The others will stay open, but expect big changes as far as marketing for both brands.

Nectar Wine Bar & Ale House, which opened in 2015, closed at the end of April. Opened by Rachel and Rob Stephens, Nectar suffered from slow business and called it quits.

Saigon Express, a longtime pho staple for the Midtown, closed its doors on April 7 after 14 years of business. The shop's owner declined to comment on reasons why.

New Additions
Both Whole Food Markets gained mochi bars as of this past month. Several flavors are available and mochi ice cream start at $2 per ball.
