Salai’s realistic work in this series paints women who are personal inspirations. She explores ways of outwardly portraying each woman’s inner strength and beauty. Cantu’s work continues a series of political art begun in 2015 that explores social justice issues in our country through several paintings - some of which include M16 shell casings embedded into them that add context inspired by his military service. Garland’s work broadly addresses social justice in realistic expressionism. His art addresses a “new objectivity” about destructive climate change and the consequences. Some of his paintings address the brutal realism of family separation and starvation.
