If you’ve recently checked out the Juxtapoz website, you may have come across the work of one of San Antonio’s own, Scotch! (winner of 2007’s Best of San Antonio — Best Anonymous Public Art for “Tricycle Girl”). Uniting Artists through Crime — a project Scotch! and his partner worked on — is a collaborative effort to bring to Texas a large body of work from the new street-art movement.

Originally conceived in a brainstorming session in August, it was finally unveiled in mid-December following two separate attempts to install large-scale posters on a downtown building. The locale they decided on was a prime spot for taggers — a perfect showcase for street art. Following a few months of gathering friends from outside of Texas online (from New York, Washington DC, California, Spain, Russia, Malaysia, Australia, and Canada) to contribute their work and ship it over — the final product was a dynamic collaboration of creative wits.

Scotch! plans to hold the event again in the future; he’s already been approached by more artists.
