Pee-wee Herman — the first metrosexual? Something to meditate on February 13 as you light good-fortune votives for SA’s Dawn Brooks. Brooks will be in LA, pitching Paul Reubens’ agent her brainstorm for Amerivespa 2010: VCOA’s Big Adventure, in which scooter riders from around the country cruise the Alamo City and compete in a Pee-wee’s Playhouse and/or Pee-wee Herman Show costume contest judged by the man-child himself. Timing’s good, says Brooks, because Reubens is resurrecting his alter ego for Pee-wee’s Playhouse: the Movie, aimed at a new generation of fans.

The Vespa Club of America’s annual meetup draws upwards of 1,000 riders each year, and Brooks is calling in decades worth of favors to make sure SA’s entry (which will follow Seattle, Chattanooga, TN, and Los Gatos, CA) is over the top: live music, an art show starring the convention’s high-profile poster artists, official photo shoot in the Alamo’s basement ;-), a competition sponsored by Piaggio to design Pee-wee’s 21st-century scooter, and so on. She feels the stars aligning. “The agent can put the deal together. I’m not interested in remuneration,” says Brooks. “I just think it’d be really cool.”
