Surely you’re all healed up by now, psychically and toxic-wise, from the merry rigors of Fiesta, and you’re ready for another civic-minded party. This Saturday, why not drop a well-deserved 25 measly bucks to help defray the ongoing costs of our public river-front redevelopment, at the first (um, annual? … one can hope) “River-tini” Pour-off? Mixologists from all over our fine, deep-drankin’ city will present signature vodka-based libations inspired by our green jewel of a riocito, with one cocktail deemed the winner by judges including Greater Chamber President Richard Perez, Texas Public Radio’s David Martin Davies, and, well, me. (Hint to contestants: I will totally give you extra points if your ’tini addresses, non-literally, the whole “hippo poop” zoo-runoff fracas.) Comida provided by such eateries as Paesanos, Aldaco’s, Tré Trattoria, and Biga! Ernie Zuniga of KABB will emcee! The Mission Reach portion of the re-development, which includes public art by Martin Richman, George Schroeder, Bill Fontana, Carlos Cortes, Stuart Allen, Mark Schlesinger, and Rolando Briseño, is set for unveiling May 30, and promises to be awesome.
