ARTifacts

Artpace does an awful lot for the arts community hereabouts, from providing free beer at their openings and travel grants to artists (the current, and very deserving, grantees include Justin Parr, Marlys Dietrick, and Thomas Cummins) to educational opportunitites for kiddos — and, frequently, even a slot in their residency program for an artist from this very city (past SATX Artpace residents include Cruz Ortiz, Chris Sauter, Chuck Ramirez, Jesse Amado, and Anne Wallace). On Saturday the 29th, Artpace will hold a ginormous blowout garage sale — monies from which will go toward the venerable institution’s general operating fund, as times are, apparently, hard for everybody. Ready for purchase will be furniture, kitchen items, and tchotchkes from the Artists-in-Residence apartments. A genuinely hilarious video starring Artpace’s Studio Tech, Massie Center, can be enjoyed at youtube.com/watch?v=cAor0z-kOfc. Of the sale, Development Associate Matt Woods says, “We’ll have the taco truck out from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and breakfast foods, too.” Will haggling be allowed? “Yes,” Woods admits, then chuckles, “C’mon, the prices will already be low. And it’s for charity.” 8am-2pm, 513 N. Flores
