Artists Looking at Art: Claudio Dicochea

When: Thu., Feb. 12, 6:30-7:30 p.m. 2015

Claudio Dicochea’s most recent series of paintings is a reimagining of the 18th-century colonial Mexican genre of “casta,” or caste, paintings. In its original context, the practice was used to record the racial mixing taking place soon after the arrival of Europeans in the New World. Dicochea asserts that his work examines “how genealogy, sexual desire, and poverty affect our own structuring of social identity.”
