Tabor’s Balance is filled with the guitar-driven sound that powers King’s X; if it weren’t for the lack of bassist Dug Pinnick’s vocals and drummer Jerry Gaskill’s harmonies, it could easily pass for a King’s X album. “Money Mouth” opens strong, with edgy guitars and a blistering solo. “’Cause We Believed (Blame It)” rocks dynamically and speaks to the corporate greed and government cover-ups that plague the planet. There are more contemplative tunes too, such as “Coma,” a melodic gem about waking up that recalls some of Tabor’s best work on those early King’s X albums. Tabor draws an apropos balance on the album, reinforcing his status as a diverse virtuoso.
