ARTIST ALI WIESSE CHALKING UP THE CURRENT'S COVER
  • Artist Ali Wiesse chalking up the Current's cover

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of staging a colorful preview of this Saturday's Chalk It Up right on the grounds of Artpace. Thanks to Artpace's own Francesca Rattray and Amada Miller, we were connected with Southwest School of Art BFA student Ali Wiesse, who custom-crafted this week's Current cover entirely with chalk.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wiesse will be chalking up Downtown Houston Street as a member of SWS's Team Works group. Among the not-to-miss highlights of the kid-friendly favorite are "fleeting masterpieces" created by 19 Feature Artists (including Louis Vega Trevino, Sarah Fox, Kevin Rayhons and Joel “Turtle” Cruz), the return of Reagan Johns' Spirograph-inspired, interactive sculpture "Chalka Khan" and a Vacancy Projects pop-up exhibition showcasing works by former Artpace residents in the Book Building (140 E. Houston St.).
