WINNER: Doomsday Tattoo
San Pedro Ave. •(210) 957-1050You won't find anyone putting on airs at Doomsday Tattoo. Owner Bubba Soliz, who has been a tattooer for 13 years, said he and his crew befriend everyone who walks through their door, even if they want something as out-of-style as a tribal design or koi fish. "None of us play the ego game," said Soliz, who opened his shop in 2013. "We'd never say we're too cool for certain tattoos. There is a mutual respect between us and our clients." Soliz enjoys doing a lot of traditional American and Japanese tattoos and geometrical work, but has learned to stay versatile as an artist over the years. He is encouraged that there has recently been more regulation in his industry. "It's going to get to where you actually have to be good at what you do to open a tattoo shop," Soliz said. "No one wants a tattoo from someone who just bought the supplies."
