Blues Prodigy Joe Bonamassa Playing San Antonio Twice This Weekend

  • Marty Moffatt
Joe Bonamassa, a blues prodigy, isn’t a name that’s widely known. But for aficionados of blues and blues rock, Bonamassa – who opened for B.B. King at age 12 and has performed alongside the likes of Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and Stephen Stills – is an important torch carrier for arguably the most American of musical styles.

The prolific singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (most revered as a guitarist) has released more than 15 albums, some solo and some with various collaborators. Black Coffee, the most recent of these albums, and perhaps a good place to start for the uninitiated, came out in January and prominently features vocalist Beth Hart. Each of Bonamassa’s pair of SA shows will feature both an electric and an acoustic set, a nod to the present and past of the blues genre.
