But one outlet, the New York Daily News, took issue with the rhetoric from Republican politicians, and printed this cover:

Patrick later deleted the tweet, and said on his Facebook page that he was “disappointed by those today who suggested a different meaning to our post on the tragedy yesterday in California.”
“God Hears Our Prayers means we can be reassured that God is always present to hear us as we struggle through the most difficult times in our lives and as we seek him out for peace, comfort and understanding,” Patrick said.
There’s nothing wrong with praying for victims and their families, and for this senseless and tragic rash of violence that plagues the U.S. to end. But what good are they if Patrick and others in power steadfastly refuse to enact laws that make Americans safer?
Patrick would surely refute that by saying they've done exactly that, pointing to laws like the one that will allow handguns to be openly carried, which will be enacted on January 1. Another post to social media yesterday showed that Patrick thinks that more people carrying more guns is the remedy to America's epidemic of mass shootings:
“We need MORE trained, armed citizens — not fewer — to protect themselves and others from terrorists and criminals.”
