Buranded, Sleep Now Yes, Seileen, & GPKISM

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-01-27

Blame it on a bad translation if you like, but something tells me the email address listed in the press release for presale information for Japanese bands GPKISM, Seileen, and Buranden’s show at Atomix — — ain’t gonna work. You’ll want to go to this one anyway, though. Buranden’s music and demeanor is pretty similar to modern American pop (complete with Auto-Tune and occasional English lyrics), but the other bands’ outfits might make you think you’ve gone to an extremely high-end cosplay convention by mistake and this promises to be more than a fashion show. Seileen incorporate elements of classical music, opera, and avant-garde spoken-word into steampunk industrial beats, and if Trent Reznor ever stars in a live-action Hellsing, electro-goths GPKISM better do the theme song. So just get there early — Buranden are scheduled to start playing at 8:30 p.m. — because anytime promoters bring cool international bands to town, you don’t complain that you couldn’t preorder tickets. You just say, “Domo arigato!” May we have some more, please, Mr. Buttfartypants? $20, 8pm Sat, Jan 30, Atomix, 1902 McCullough, (210) 736-2112, — Jeremy Martin
