City Council B Sessions (Finally) Broadcast

The City of San Antonio is moving to increase transparency. Starting today, City Council 'B Sessions' will be available for live viewing on the City’s government access channel, TVSA, and will be live streamed hereThe B session archives will be available online and reruns are scheduled to air on TVSA at 8 a.m. on weekends.

While COSA’s Thursday Council meetings are streamed online and available on TV (given the provider carries it), the Wednesday session is not viewable, which is bad news for citizens unable to attend the afternoon informal question-and-answer based meetings in person.

The meetings take place at 2 p.m. in smaller rooms outside City Council chambers and offers an important preview of presentations and major policy decisions that eventually make their way before Council later in the week.

It'd be nice to think COSA took a tip from our list of New Years resolutions— "Without seeing emotional expression (not to mention the difficulty of trying to differentiate between voices), some of the most revealing nuggets from your elected representatives go unnoticed. Get a camera in there and get serious about transparency, COSA," we suggested to council at the end of 2013. Were they listening? We're not sure. But whatever the motivator, increased visibility of our public officials is a step in the right direction.

TVSA providers: Time Warner Cable digital channel 99-21, Grande Cable Channel 20, AT&T U-verse channel 99.
