Have I mentioned that I would give it all up — this (glamorous) life journalistic — should the opportunity to become Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry’s apprentice present itself? Closest I’ll get — unless you’re reading me, for some reason, Mr. Gondry, and feeling benevolent — is the joy of participating in Rewind Kindly, a contest inspired by my favorite frog’s new film, Be Kind Rewind, and you, too, dear reader, are invited to share in the fun.
Here’s the task (if you can call it that): Contestants are challenged to upload their own low-budget, up-to-five-minute remake of any popular film to filmmakingfrenzy.com by January 18. If you’ve always dreamed of heading out to the woods with your friends to perform Fellowship of the Ring (abridged), but were afraid to ask, well now’s your chance to do it without feeling like a LARPer. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
On January 24, the top submissions will be screened at Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar, followed by a midnight screening of Be Kind Rewind. The makers of the winning homemade film will be awarded a quad-core Dell editing station with a 30-inch monitor. Good luck! XO.
