Sneering slinky sex sludge
Hide your beer and your girlfriends, because the Original Booty Burglars plan to steal them both when the band visits San Antonio next week.
The quartet from Huntington Beach, California via Missoula, Montana, welds the sludge-rock of the Stooges to the slinky hip-shake of the Cramps for a set of sexed-up songs such as "Touch Yourself" "Beer Goggles" "Drink Some Whiskey" and "Dope Ass Body."
While OBB - guitarists and singers Uncle Jesse and Jerry Curl, bassist Belz, and drummer the Water Buffalo Man - clearly have a two-track mind, musically the subsonic rhythm section, fuzzed-out guitars, and sneering vocals define garage-rock. Which garage? "Crank H20" could have been written where a deranged Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold built their bombs; "Rocking All Night Long" degenerates into a woozy langor and feels like someone left the car running with the garage door closed.
OBB is worth staying out late on a Monday night, but you'll feel dirty the next day. Dirty in a good way, of course.
