David Robinson still has a lot to say when it comes to Kawhi Leonard, who he has been critical of since the star player's departure from the Spurs.

In a recent interview with Express-News writer Tom Osborn, the retired Spur said that he was proud of the team for "bouncing back" following a dramatic split from Leonard.

"Obviously, the whole Kawhi situation was kind of a nightmare situation for us, right?" Robinson told Osborn.

The Admiral said Leonard's departure was all the more impactful considering the fact that the now-Raptor was expected to fill Tim Duncan's role on the team.

"He was the perfect guy to follow Tim, and to see that he really wasn't happy here was surprising and disappointing and all that," he said. "It felt like we were having to restart our gears a little bit."

Though the Spurs are out for the season, they were eliminated in the first round of playoffs following a 4-3 series against the Denver Nuggets, Robinson is optimistic about the team's future.

"We still obviously have some things to figure out," he told Osborn. "We still aren't where we need to be yet, but we have pieces and that's all you can really ask as a franchise."
