In a recent appearance on ESPN's "The Jump," legend David Robinson said he reached out to Kawhi Leonard during the year-long novela only to be ignored. While talking about the Leonard-Spurs drama, Robinson said the new Toronto Raptor is a hard guy to understand.
David Robinson tells me Kawhi Leonard’s departure from San Antonio is “one of the oddest situations I’ve seen since I’ve been in pro basketball." He says he tried to reach out to Kawhi several times in recent months, but never got an answer back. pic.twitter.com/k4mNiqGxQM— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) July 23, 2018
Nichols then asked Robinson whether he had spoken to Leonard about being unhappy with the Spurs.
"I've reached out to him several times and just never hear anything back from him," Robinson said.
But it seems that it wasn't just in the past year.
"I think the whole time he's been here I've talked to him maybe a handful of times," Robinson said.
We get it. Leonard is a man of few words and incredibly reserved (even by Spurs standards), but it says a lot that the two have spoken so few times since Leonard joined the team in 2011.
The news left fans shocked, and some angry that Leonard disregarded Robinson.
David Robinson was the unanimous Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, scoring champion, and a seasoned MVP in the NBA, so he's got some credentials. If you have some class and some character, you return his calls. More @Undisputed, now on FS1 https://t.co/oUahp0vfm5— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) July 24, 2018
David Robinson might be the most perfect human on the planet. Also, he’s not just a Spurs legend. He’s an NBA legend.— Alfonso Del Quan (@thehalestone) July 23, 2018
To ignore him, even if you’re a “quiet” person, is disrespectful on every front.
I hope Kawhi Leonard gets frostbite in Toronto.
David Robinson talking about how he reached out to Kawhi multiple times and never heard back while he was in SA... being a quiet guy isn't even an excuse for disrespecting a Spurs legend like that! Especially when hes just trying to help! Good riddance Kawhi!— Ryan Puente (@THERyanP7) July 23, 2018
How do you ignore David Robinson?— Kesh XII🤴🏽🐙🇯🇵 (@Kesh_XII) July 23, 2018
I was cool with Kawhi until he ignored David Robinson— Quixem Ramirez (@quixem) July 23, 2018
