Halloween may be approaching, but let’s not forget the Mexican holiday – Dia de los Muertos. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The culinary team at Las Canarias at the Omni La Mansion del Rio in San Antonio, honor the day with a traditional brunch and each year honor a Mexican hero. The Dia de Los Muertos brunch takes place Sunday, November 2, and has a menu packed with house favorites including prime rib, tamales with green chili and pork, mexican rice and frijoles charros, San Antonio paellas and more. For a sweet treat, guests will enjoy Fruit Loop cookies, s’mores brownies, cake truffles and more. This year’s brunch honors Mario Moreno, aka Cantinflas – a prolific and productive Mexican comedian, producer, writer and singer. He is often referred to as the Mexican Jerry Lewis and once described by none other then Charles Chaplin as “the world’s greatest comedian.” He passed away in 1993 and was hailed as a national hero.
