Historic La Villita will provide a scenic backdrop for a celebration dedicated to the traditional Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos. At this festive occasion, contestants can compete in a challenge to design a Día de los Muertos altar, a critical component of the annual festival. Cash prizes of $2000, $1000, and $500 will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place, as well as the title “Fan Favorite”. Also on display will be artwork from local and regional artists, with jewelry, handcrafted masks, sugar skulls and face painting. And while soaking in the rich culture at this event, don't miss the lively dance, drum and puppet procession led by Las Monas Dance and Drum group, which will wind through La Villita Historic Arts Village on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
