- San Antonio Current
- The Guadalupe Theater, located at 723 S. Brazos St.
At 8 p.m., on Friday, August 21, party-throwers Do210 and BAC-providers Miller Lite have teamed up to present a thrilling Tex-Mex gig at the historic Guadalupe Theater. Free with RSVP, the gig features music from Piñata Protest, Money Chica and cumbia/thrash trio Grupo Frackaso.
If you're not familiar with Piñata Protest by now, you must have filled your ears with dirt long ago — or don't have access to the internet (that's much more reasonable). The San Anto punk quartet is a dynamo of straight ahead punk with tejano and norteño upbeats. For a one-minute primer, try their rendition of "La Cucaracha."
Since 2012, Austin’s first chicha outfit, Money Chicha, has kept the music alive for us norteamericanos. Composed of members of the excellent Austin bands Grupo Fantasma, Spanish Gold, Ocote Soul Sounds and Brownout, Money Chicha’s polyrhythmic incantations are a delicacy for dancers.
Other highlights of the evening include complementary appetizers from vegan joint La Botánica, projections by Vexyl AudioVisual and live screen-printing from Black Moon Print. The company will screen the limited edition concert poster by Ray "Tattooedboy" Scarborough (who did our Pee Wee Herman cover).
