Gary Numan is a pioneer, a perpetual and often rewardingly perplexing force in electronic music. Having helped direct where the genre goes in terms of popular music way back in the 1970s and ’80s, Numan is still putting out good music and working with some of the best contemporary practitioners of the genre. The man’s staying power and ability to keep his ideas (mostly) fresh is impressive.

But you certainly don’t have to be familiar with Numan’s latest work to know that a chance to catch the legend down on the St. Mary’s Strip is not to be missed. Fans can expect a focus on the newer material for this show, but there is no way Numan will miss the chance to remind us of his considerable legacy by busting out plenty of crowd-pleasing oldies.

$43-$405, Sat Sept 8, 8pm, Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., seatjewel.com.
