A slave endured a treacherous life with his family and thought that the only way to save himself and his family would be to remove them from the plantation. This decision proved not be wise at the time and produced many unforeseen events to strike. The eldest child, Josie, resurrects from death and her mere presence gives everyone a reason to reflect and to learn the plight of those slaves that inhabited the plantation. Illinois native author Emarie Randle reads her novel and discusses it at this unique event.
