First Course: Anniversaries for The Block and Big Bob's Burgers

Burger-versary at Big Bob's

H-E-B (multiple locations) held its first H-E-B's Primo Picks Quest for Texas Best contest and Nanette Watson's Frio Farms (just up the road in Concan) was tapped to receive the top $25,000 prize and a chance to have their extracts on the shelves of H-E-B in 2015.  We can't wait to cook with their array of extracts that include Bourbon & Cane Sugar, Rum & Honey and Tequila & Agave, and a plethora of other traditional flavors.

La Madeleine Country French Cafe (multiple locations) is celebrating the end of summer Thursday, August 28 all day by helping parents, and their kids, cool off with a free glass of La Madeleine ice tea.

It's been a year since The Block (14530 Roadrunner Way) rolled into town and parked it over by UTSA, but the party is just getting started. Kick it with 'em Labor Day weekend Friday, August 29 through Sunday, September 1 for the UTSA game, killer drink specials all weekend, a water balloon fight, a 30ft high Slip and Slide, and all the music you need to set this weekend off.

We at the Current sing the praises of breakfast at all hours of the day, but we're not the only ones. Max's Wine Dive (340 E Basse) is celebrating National Breakfast Month all September and they're mixing up the meaning of breakfast by whipping up their Fried Egg Sandwich with artisan sourdough, three fried eggs, applewood-smoked bacon, Gruyère, Bibb lettuce, tomatoes and black truffle aioli, served with Wine Dive truffle chips on both the brunch and dinner menus. Don't forget to ask about the Hangover Hash.

Big Bob's Burgers' Downtown (100 N Santa Rosa) location will celebrate a year of operation on Wednesday, September 3 at 6:30 p.m. with a beer samples, live music, free parking after 6 in the parking lot across the street and the return of the 50/50/50 burger made with a half ground chuck, half ground bacon patty, topped with pulled pork and tons of cheddar cheese. Yum.

It's never to early to plan for Crumpets Restaurant and Bakery's (3920 Harry Wurzbach) Vintner Dinner taking place October, 17. Indulge in a decadent dinner that combines specialty wines from the award-winning DeLoach Vineyards as well as Chef Francois Maeder's gourmet menu that is carefully selected for you. Seating is limited and you have to make reservations before you show up! Get your $70 ready and head to to make your reservation.
