FL!GHT Gallery Presents Random Assortment of Artists for January's First Friday

While some of the exhibitions we preview go to extreme lengths to hang a thematic umbrella over works that, at the end of the day, have little or nothing in common, others make no pretense that there’s any common thread beyond the aesthetic whims of the curator.

Such is clearly the case with “A Mixed Bag,” an aptly titled group show opening at FL!GHT with receptions on First Thursday and Friday.

Curated by Houston-based painter Jonathan Paul Jackson, the creative pupu platter combines sculptures, paintings and collages by 10 FL!GHT newbies: Tom Bandage, Bye Meredith, Kel Brown, Jack Smith, Ryan Day, Meredith Richey, Charles Been Russell, Sara McKee, Dual and Jackson himself. As Jackson sees it, “A Mixed Bag” presents “an opportunity to find a work you can discuss with others or just simply enjoy or not enjoy on your own.”

Free, 6-10pm Thu Jan. 3-Fri Jan. 4, FL!GHT Gallery, 112 Blue Star, (210) 872-2586,
