The squeaky wheel gets the grease and in this case our begging for more late night snacking options has paid off once more with the addition of Cured’s (306 Pearl Pkwy, (210) 314-3929) Midnight Hours. On weekends, the eatery will offer select small plates along with bottled cocktail sodas. Cured switches to its late-night menu at 11 p.m. and stays open through 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
Charcuterie is here to stay, and its popularity has claimed a whole week to celebrate cured, smoked and preserved meats and sausages. Charcuterie Week 2014 will feature restaurants offering house-prepared charc boards including Barbaro, Biga on the Banks, Crossroads Kitchen at Faust, Cured, The Granary ’Cue & Brew, Restaurant Gwendolyn, Il Sogno, Lüke Riverwalk, The Luxury, The Monterey, Sandbar Fish House & Market, Tre Trattoria Alamo Heights and Where Y’at Food Truck for $20 July 22 through July 26.
The Brooklynite’s (516 Brooklyn, (210) 444-0707) Jeret Peña served as a local guide for TravelChannel.com’s segment “San Antonio: Top 10 Locals List.” The video, which was shot over a period of three days, features Peña at some of his fave local joints including The Brooklynite, Local Coffee, Esquire Tavern and the Pearl Farmers Market, along with stops at unusual local faves including the Ghost Tracks and Mission Reach.
Houston’s Sugar Fairy AKA Rebecca Masson of Fluff Bake Bar is making another visit to our fair city on Tuesday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m. for a six-course collaborative dinner at Umai Mi (555 Bitters, (210) 496-0555). Masson, a former chef-testant on Bravo’s Top Chef Just Desserts and Dady will dish up foie gras eclairs, charred veggies and hamachi with pickled peaches and more for $60. Call for reservations.
Wild Beast, the Matisse-inspired pop-up inside the San Antonio Museum of Art brought to you by the folks at The Monterey, is changing things up on weekends with a prix fixe dinner by Jennifer Dobbertin. The 7 p.m. seating will feature a five-course menu on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12 for 24 lucky guests. The menu is available on Wild Beast’s Facebook page and reservations can be made through firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m pumped for Dobbertin’s take on Choco Tacos with shiso mint ice cream magic shell and fortune cookie components.
NAO’s (312 Pearl Pkwy, (210) 554-6484) Celebration of Cuisines program has shifted to Yucatan with a Mayan-influenced three-course menu priced at $42 through September 8. The menu features a choice of appetizer (either a venison corn tostada or pickled salad), main (seafood-stuffed chiles with hoja santa sauce or roasted pork tenderloin with black bean relish, sweet plantain puree, goat cheese and corn dumplings) and dessert of cacao nib “nicoatole,” a cacao-corn pudding with sapote fruit ice cream and anise sauce.
